About Headsets
You'll need a good quality digital headset in order to achieve accurate voice recognition. Digital headsets use the USB port and are automatically installed by Windows. Don't bother using an analog headset (sound card) there is too much static in the reception.
If you work in an open office or with the stereo/tv on--you'll need the Sennheiser for total noise canceling.
Amazon and eMicrophones have the best deals we could find for good inexpensive digital headsets--please let us know it you find a better price.

Setting up for Speech Recognition
First--just plug in your microphone, most computers will recognize it and set it up as the default microphone. You'll want to check that in the Speech control Panel.
Second--check to make sure it's working, do that by setting the volume in the Speech control panel. You can check the quality of your microphone with the Windows Sound Recorder (Start...Programs...Accessories...Entertainment)
Finally--Train it for your profile (your voice, noise environment, and microphone) in the Speech control panel or in speak4 (it's the same profile and it's saved on the computer. You can tell when the speech engine is well trained by how quickly you can read the training material into the engine.
